Psoriasis is
an autoimmune disease suffered by roughly
80 million people around the world. Characteristics
of the disease include itchiness, redness,
and painful blistering of skin and varies
in severity and frequency of flare ups. Although
it is not contagious and is likely hereditary,
the cause of the disease is not fully understood
and is treated in a number of different ways.
People with psoriasis
tend to suffer from the disease in flare-ups
where symptoms become more severe for a period
of time before going away. These flare-ups
can be triggered by things such as diet, stress,
climate, illness, medications and others.
This can lead to a life of limitation for
people afflicted.
Of the many treatments
for psoriasis there is no definite cure, only
an alleviation of symptoms. One of those cures
is the application of mineral oils to help
fight dehydration in damaged skin. These oils
can help protect damaged cells by replacing
the natural oils the body is failing to produce
in afflicted areas. Also psoriasis can produce
a feeling scaliness as dry skin flakes off
so using mildly abrasive salts can help clear
the skins pores and allow for new cell growth.
Although not as effective as over the counter
remedies or dermatological treatment using
these products during mild flare-ups can be
more convenient than seeking professional
help. However, in severe cases it is always
best to consult a physician.
