Makeup Brushes
For any professional make up and cosmetic artist there
are literally hundreds of makeup brushes they can choose from to
decide which brush to use
with which powder or other cosmetic. Many brushes
come in sets of ten, twenty or more which can be a bit intimidating
to the regular makeup consumer. Although when shopping for your
makeup it's common to come across product specific brushes such
as the famous Kabuki
brush which is usually used for mineral powder foundation, some
other brushes have multiple or confusing uses. A very important
test to apply with any expensive brush is what is called the "shedding'
test which is when you test a makeup brush for how well the bristles
hold up without falling out. Also make sure the brushes you are
examining are soft and gentle enough to give you proper coverage,
but not so soft that powder and make up will get everywhere. Although
this is not easy to do with a new brush because most often it takes
a few times of usage before they start falling out, you can at least
test the quality of a brush by running it against your hands a few
times. If you see many hairs falling out then you will want to stay
away from brushes of such poor quality because you will have to
buy a new one soon. Another thing you should take note of is that
even a very good and expensive professional brush can turn bad over
time if you don't apply the proper care. Make sure to clean your
brushes once in a while to get rid of makeup residue, you can use
a gentle soap or a good hair shampoo to do so.
Professional Makeup Brush Sets
It gets a bit trickier when you are considering purchasing
a complete set of brushes for your cosmetics if you are a beautician
or professional make up artist. You want to evaluate your needs
and your core client base before deciding on how expensive and how
wide ranging you will need your professional makeup brush set to
be. Some key things to be aware of when choosing between cosmetic
brushes is the difference between animal hair brushes and synthetic
hair brushes. This can make a big difference, for example some people
are allergic to synthetic hair brushes, however some people really
prefer to those sets over animal hair brushes due to animal cruelty
concerns. Be sure to be able to take out at least three or four
individual brushes from each set and test them for softness and
shedding before spending a lot of money on a professional set.
